About The Position

The Adjunct Instructor, Mathematics will provide instruction to students in assigned subject areas, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies suitable for individual student needs in classroom, online, or hybrid settings. This role involves evaluating student performance, maintaining accurate records, and staying current with developments in the field of mathematics through professional development. The instructor will also collaborate with faculty to develop and revise course curriculum and educational materials, and use technology as an instructional tool. A key aspect of this role is to promote a culture of belonging, fostering an environment where all individuals feel welcomed, valued, and empowered, and to support the college's policies on access, fair employment, and equal opportunities.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in Mathematics or a Mathematics discipline (e.g., engineering, statistics, physics).
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or a Mathematics-based discipline (e.g., statistics, engineering, physics) PLUS a minimum of 6 graduate credits in Mathematics or a mathematics-based discipline and an approved plan to complete a Master’s degree within 2 years that includes 18 graduate credits in the subject area.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction to students according to the objectives of each course assigned.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to individual student needs, including lectures, small groups, demonstrations, and computer-assisted instruction.
  • Prepare and administer evaluation instruments and maintain accurate student records on attendance, achievement, and progress.
  • Assist in gathering and interpreting data for department assessment.
  • Increase and improve personal teaching and subject knowledge through professional development.
  • Develop and/or revise course objectives, content, descriptions, and instructional strategies in cooperation with other department faculty.
  • Develop, revise, and maintain classroom policies, grading structures, and strategies.
  • Use the computer as an instructional tool for demonstrations, engaged learning, and assessments.
  • Provide information and data to assist in the preparation of supply and equipment orders, course schedules, book orders, and other necessary reports.
  • Support and promote an environment of belonging where all students, faculty members, and college employees feel welcomed, valued, and empowered.
  • Foster a community where each individual and their varied perspectives enrich the educational experience and create a safe and respectful environment.
