The University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks remote adjunct faculty to teach Mastering the AWS Cloud (CMIT 426) in its Cloud Computing & Telecommunications program, within the Department of Cybersecurity. The course provides hands-on study of Amazon Web Services (AWS), including computing, networking, storage, and database services. Students learn best practices for building secure and reliable applications in AWS and how to identify appropriate AWS services to meet an organization’s technical requirements. Adjunct faculty are scholar-practitioners who are actively engaged in their professional fields and help students develop relevant knowledge and expertise. Faculty engage students through frequent, motivating interaction; guide collaboration and applied, problem- and project-based learning; provide regular constructive feedback and assess work using rubrics; demonstrate current subject-matter expertise and connect concepts across the academic program; and provide feedback to the program chair on possible curricular improvements. New faculty must complete UMGC’s online two-week faculty orientation, FacDev 411, as a condition of hire. The position is open until filled. Salary is commensurate with experience and is paid per credit hour according to rank, degree, and step. Newly hired adjunct faculty are generally appointed at Step 1, with subsequent advancement governed by UMGC policies and eligibility requirements. Applicants should submit a resume or curriculum vitae; a cover letter is highly preferred and the posting also says submissions should include one. Candidates with international degrees may be required to provide translations and degree evaluations from NACES-approved vendors if selected. UMGC is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to an inclusive workplace, with accommodations available for applicants with disabilities.
