The Acute Patient Access Services Representative is the first point of contact for patients at a hospital-based healthcare facility and assists with the administrative aspects of accessing medical treatment. The role supports Main Admitting and may back up the Emergency Department and other outpatient and obstetrics teams. Responsibilities include in-person patient intake and registration, providing customer service, verifying demographic and insurance information, confirming eligibility and benefits, obtaining authorizations, generating estimates, discussing financial liability, and collecting payments. The position uses multiple computer applications and systems, including ms4 and the electronic health record, and requires accurately documenting accounts and completing consent and compliance forms. This is a high-volume, fast-paced clinical environment. Performance is measured using metrics such as accuracy, productivity, and point-of-service collections. The representative works independently under regular supervision, follows structured routines, prioritizes competing tasks, and adapts to changing needs. Registry/per diem roles are used as needed and have no guaranteed hours; medical benefits are not offered. Employees must complete required new-hire orientation and patient access and systems training. Acute patient access training generally lasts two to three weeks, Monday through Friday during standard business hours, though it may vary. Candidates must be available for day or night shifts, weekend shifts, day-shift training, and occasional on-call shifts as needed. A post-offer occupational health physical assessment, drug screen, and background check are required.
