About The Position

This position, under general supervision of the Finance / Accounting Manager, will handle the Solid Waste Services (SWS) department payroll duties, customer billing duties, basic accounting duties, and provide professional administrative support to the SWS Finance department. The role involves preparing and loading journal entries into financial software, performing G/L account reconciliations, and assisting in the preparation of audit work-papers and responding to auditor questions. The accountant will also maintain asset records, manage capitalization and retirement of assets in the accounting software, and monitor related depreciation expense. Additionally, this incumbent will serve as the lead person for the management of the unclaimed property program.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and five (5) years of professional accounting, payroll, or similar work experience
  • OR A certificate as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and one (1) year of professional accounting, payroll, or similar work experience
  • OR Associate's degree in Accounting or a related discipline and three (3) years of professional accounting, payroll, or similar work experience
  • OR Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related discipline and one (1) year of professional accounting, payroll, or similar work experience
  • Employment is conditional based on a satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States
