About The Position

This position provides supervision of participants to ensure the safety of all persons utilizing Municipal pools/lakes; communicates information to coworkers, immediate supervisor and the public; provides a wide variety of water safety instruction to children and adults; responsibilities also include performing facility and grounds security and maintenance; performing rescues, assists, first aid, CPR and functions of the Emergency Action/Management Plan; and performing duties related to maintaining swimming pool water quality standards.

Requirements

  • Must be certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
  • American Red Cross or equivalent Lifeguard Training at time of hire.
  • American Red Cross or equivalent First Aid Certification at time of hire.
  • American Red Cross or equivalent Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Professional Rescuers at time of hire.
  • Employment is conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400).
  • All required certifications and/or licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees.
  • AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.
  • Veterans who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs, recognizing the person as a veteran.
  • Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach proof of current service to the application.
