About The Position

This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union. The Recreation Specialist, under supervision provides leadership and functional supervision to recreation facility and program participants; organizes and cleans the facility in accordance with the facility operation manual; greets, registers, and admits participants into the facility. This is an entry level position that is distinguished from the higher classification level by its lack of managerial responsibilities. This position may be required to work outdoors in inclement weather and rugged terrain. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Three (3) months experience leading, directing, supervising, coaching, or teaching children and/or adults at a recreation facility, a childcare facility, a childcare program, camps, educational institutions, therapeutic recreational programs, team, organized youth programs, or other similar programs.
  • American Red Cross First Aid and American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification or equivalent within 30 days of hire.
  • A valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record at time of hire.
  • Satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400).
