About The Position

Requirements

• Associate's degree (two years of college) and completion of a one-year ultrasound program.
• Registered or eligible to take the ARDMS registry exam within one year of hire, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

• Provide for patient comfort and arrange equipment for procedures.
• Prepare equipment and supplies according to established departmental procedures.
• Identify oneself to patients and verify patient identity using an ID bracelet or verbal acknowledgment.
• Explain procedures and equipment clearly to patients and maintain patient privacy.
• Maintain equipment in proper working order; clean and prepare equipment for patient use.
• Sterilize equipment after each isolation patient according to nursing and departmental policies.
• Perform predetermined preventive maintenance to ensure equipment operates efficiently.
• Document vascular examinations according to departmental procedures.
• Select, cut, and mount scan segments to visualize normal and abnormal flow studies; enter, maintain, and record pertinent patient data.
• Inform physicians of changes in a patient's condition or pertinent examination findings.
• Perform, assess, and critique patient Doppler studies, determining what is needed for a complete diagnostic study based on the request and preliminary results.
• Alert appropriate medical staff to abnormalities requiring immediate attention.
• Compare present echocardiograms with previous studies to monitor changes in patient status.
• Carry out assignments within a realistic time frame.
• Administer vascular procedures using computerized ultrasound equipment and recording devices.
• Use patient charts to obtain pertinent history as necessary.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of normal vascular anatomy and hemodynamics and major diseases of the cerebral and peripheral vascular systems.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
