New and Returning Aquatic Staff Fall, Winter Spring 2026-27 (Part Time)

About The Position

The City of Burlington is accepting applications for Aquatic staff for the Fall, Winter, and Spring seasons of 2026-27. This is a part-time, fixed-term, seasonal position with employment running from August 2026 until September 2027. The role requires working in person at various City pools, with the location subject to change. New candidates must hold the required qualifications by July 26, 2026, and attend an Aquatics Showcase. A clear criminal record check with a vulnerable sector screening is required.

Requirements

  • Lifeguard minimum age is 15.
  • National Lifeguard, Airway Management, Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor and Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructors, Lifesaving Society Emergency First Aid Instructors. All awards must be current (within two years).
  • Standard First Aid with CPR C (current within three years).
  • HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development certification.
  • Must be certified as both Lifeguard and Instructor.
  • Aquatics Swim Instructor minimum age is 15.
  • Senior Lifeguard minimum age is 16 with at least 300 hours of City of Burlington Instructor Guard experience and/or at least two (2) years’ experience as an Instructor Guard (external Senior Guard experience with a minimum of one (1) years’ experience as an Instructor Guard with the City of Burlington Aquatics team).
  • Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard, Standard First Aid with CPR C, Airway Management, Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor and Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor, Lifesaving Society Emergency First Aid Instructor. All awards must be current.
  • Senior Swim Instructor minimum age is 16 with at least 300 hours of City of Burlington Instructor Guard experience and/or at least two (2) years’ experience as an Instructor Guard (external Senior Guard experience with a minimum of one (1) years’ experience as an Instructor Guard with the City of Burlington Aquatics team).
  • Successful candidate to provide a clear criminal record check with a vulnerable sector screening at their own expense.

  • Aquatic Supervisor qualification will be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lifeguard - Responsible for supervising swimmers at public/rental swim times; rendering first aid as needed; enforcing policies, rules and regulations of the pool facility; ensuring patron safety; providing excellent customer service to participants; monitoring changerooms; assisting in maintaining pool equipment in safe working condition; performing other duties as assigned.
  • Aquatics Swim Instructor - Responsible for instructing swimming lessons for all ages; Learn to Swim administration; providing excellent customer service to participants; assist in maintaining pool equipment in safe working condition; performing other duties as assigned.
  • Senior Lifeguard - Responsible for all activities pertaining to pool, facility and staff during recreational and rental programs which they are on duty; Ensure facility and programs meet all Ontario Public Pool health regulations at all times; supervise, train and evaluate Aquatic staff; Maintain positive customer relations at all times; and performing other duties as assigned.
  • Senior Swim Instructor - Responsible for all activities pertaining to pool, facility and staff during Learn to Swim Programming which they are on duty; Ensure facility and programs meet all Ontario Public Pool health regulations at all times; supervise, train and evaluate Aquatic staff during an instructional setting; Mitigating risk of participants and on deck spectators; Maintain positive customer relations at all times; completing Learn to swim administration; and performing other duties as assigned.
