Provides direct patient care to support licensed professional nurses. The role involves collecting vital information on patients and reporting it to the nursing team, contributing to the overall assessment of each patient and any changes to their condition. The Surgical Patient Care Tech implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nurse, promoting patient and family-centered care in a healing environment. This includes administering or assisting patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), performing vital signs, intake & output, fall and pressure ulcer prevention measures, urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, or point of care testing as requested. The role also involves collecting clinical data, reporting changes in patient status to the nurse, assisting with patient and family education, and documenting all patient care activities provided with correct medical terminology. The Surgical Patient Care Tech may act as a 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary and ensures the availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient's needs. Participation in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance, as well as professional development, is also expected.
