About The Position

The Central Processing Technician decontaminates, cleans, packages, and sterilizes instruments, equipment, and other supplies used in the hospital, and maintains appropriate documentation. The role supports patient safety by following infection control standards and established practices and policies. The shift varies depending on volume. This position is part of Vanderbilt Health’s Central Sterile organization. It requires knowledge of inventory control, surgical equipment, equipment maintenance, and environmental sterility and safety. The technician also supports colleagues, maintains quality and safety standards, manages resources responsibly, and adapts to operational changes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Certified Sterile Processing Technician certification from the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc.
  • One year of relevant work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate and clean instruments for the operating room.
  • Assemble instrument sets for procedures.
  • Sterilize instruments.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation.
  • Follow practices and policies that ensure patient safety and comply with infection control standards.
  • Apply inventory control practices.
  • Maintain equipment and conduct predictive maintenance on core products and equipment.
  • Provide guidance and instruction to entry-level coworkers.
