About The Position

As a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), you'll join a passionate, multidisciplinary team working to empower families and support preschool-aged children with diagnosed disabilities — directly in their community settings. This full-time role offers a meaningful opportunity to help young children connect, express, and thrive by providing direct therapy. Community Options carries out programs that provide children with enriching early learning experiences, positively impacting their lifelong learning, behavior, health, and quality of life. We empower families through inclusive programming and accessible community supports. Our Community Preschool Education (CPE) program is a PUF provider of early intervention and therapy services. We support inclusive learning in preschools and childcare centers across Edmonton, along with occasional virtual programming. Our multidisciplinary team includes Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Coordinating Teachers, Educational Assistants, and Speech-Language Pathologist Assistants (SLPAs). Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Current registration with ACSLPA.
  • Experience supporting preschool-aged children and familiarity with early intervention.
  • A strong belief in inclusive education and equity in early childhood, meaning a commitment to providing all children, regardless of their abilities or backgrounds, with equal opportunities to learn and thrive in a supportive and welcoming environment.
  • Outstanding communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • The ability to work independently while collaborating across disciplines.
  • Physical ability to engage with young children (kneeling, squatting, occasional lifting/running).
  • Valid Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector and Child Intervention Record Check (within 6 months of hire).
  • Valid Alberta Driver's License, vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation (mileage reimbursement provided).
  • Standard First Aid & CPR (Child Care Level) – required within 90 days.
  • Willingness to wear PPE for site visits as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Occasional evening/weekend flexibility required (maybe once or twice a year).

Responsibilities

  • Assess and support a caseload of up to 25 children with a range of developmental diagnoses and communication profiles, focusing on communication, social interaction, speech, and language development.
  • Develop and implement Individual Program Plans (IPPs) in collaboration with multidisciplinary team members (OT, PT, Coordinating Teacher, Assistants).
  • Use standardized and non-standardized tools to assess and evaluate communication strengths and needs.
  • Conduct program visits at a student’s childcare or preschool site.
  • Supervise and mentor SLPAs, assigning service plans and reviewing session notes.
  • Guide EAs in using communication strategies within daily routines.
  • Communicate with families to review progress, celebrate achievements, and adjust goals.
  • Attend and contribute to IPP meetings and transition planning.
  • Offer home-based coaching strategies and tools to empower caregivers.
  • Lead or participate in parent workshops, community presentations, or in-services.
  • Support early childhood sites and staff with SLP-related training.
  • Supervise student placements (SLPA/SLP students) as needed.
