About The Position

The Cell Therapy Molecular Immunobiology and Discovery team is seeking a motivated, self-driven scientist to build molecular engineering and gene delivery capabilities. The role focuses on developing and validating technologies to efficiently generate potent CAR-T cells, with innovations intended to support next-generation cell therapies. The successful candidate will bring experience in molecular biology and lentivirology, a strong immunology background, and conceptual and practical knowledge of CAR-T cell biology and challenges associated with lentiviral vector transgene delivery in vitro and in vivo. The position offers an opportunity to contribute to cellular therapy research and career development; previous experience in cellular therapy in industry or academia is preferred. As a Senior Scientist, the individual will plan and execute platform-building and hypothesis-driven research, develop strategies to improve lentiviral vector yield and throughput, and work with immunologists and cross-functional colleagues to evaluate vector cargo and delivery approaches. They will interpret complex datasets, provide scientific insights and recommendations, communicate results to support project decisions, advise team members, and help adopt novel methods and designs across ongoing programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 7 or more years of academic or industry experience; or a master’s degree and 5 or more years of academic or industry experience; or a Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences and 2 or more years of academic or industry experience.
  • Strong background in molecular biology, lentivirology, and immunology.
  • Conceptual and practical understanding of CAR-T cell biology and knowledge of challenges related to lentiviral vector transgene delivery in vitro and in vivo.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous cellular therapy experience in industry or academia.
  • Expertise with lentiviral vectors and their use in engineering T cells.
  • Technical expertise with lentiviral vector functional assays, including titration methods, multiparameter flow cytometry, and protein expression assessment.
  • Familiarity with in vitro T-cell functionality technologies, including MSD, IncuCyte-based cytolytic function assays, T-cell activation assays, T-cell proliferation analysis, and imaging.
  • Self-motivation and project-management-oriented thinking, including planning key deliverables and dependencies.
  • Strong organizational skills for thorough, timely experiment documentation and clear data presentation to program stakeholders and decision-makers.
  • Attention to detail in data interpretation and presentation, and assay troubleshooting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to collaborate across cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment.
  • Ability to multitask, independently organize time, and plan work.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills in a team environment.
  • Willingness to improvise and work pragmatically in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Strategic supervisory experience and a desire to guide direct reports’ career development.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement critical studies for platform building and hypothesis-driven research to develop next-generation lentiviral vectors.
  • Use expertise in lentiviral vector biology to create strategies that improve yield and throughput and streamline robust assessment of novel lentiviral vector platforms.
  • Collaborate with immunologists to interpret and enable science-driven decisions concerning T-cell activation pathways, antigen-specific differentiation, and CAR-T cell phenotype, and assess lentiviral vector cargo and delivery strategies.
  • Interpret and synthesize complex published and internal BMS datasets.
  • Provide scientific and technical insights on cross-functional assignments evaluating lentiviral vectors.
  • Make recommendations on department-level strategic decisions.
  • Act as a functional advisor to team members, particularly junior colleagues.
  • Design experiments, organize and analyze results, and communicate progress to support efficient Go/No Go decisions.
  • Work with team members and leaders to enable adoption of novel methods and designs in ongoing programs.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive benefit plans, including wellbeing support, retirement and financial protection benefits, and medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance offerings.
  • Flexible Time Off without a set accrual limit for eligible U.S.-based exempt employees, subject to manager approval.
  • Paid company holidays: 11 annually.
  • For eligible non-exempt employees, RayzeBio employees, and employees located in Puerto Rico: 160 hours of annual paid vacation for new hires, subject to manager approval, 11 paid company holidays, and 3 optional holidays.
  • Depending on eligibility, paid sick leave, up to two paid volunteer days per year, summer-hours flexibility, and leaves of absence for medical, personal, parental, caregiver, bereavement, or military needs.
  • Eligible employees may receive an annual Global Shutdown between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
  • Potential eligibility for discretionary incentive cash and stock opportunities.
