About The Position

This is a full-time Registered Nurse (RN) position in the PCU department at Texas Health Southwest in Fort Worth, TX. The role involves working 3-12 hour shifts, 7a – 7p, for a total of 36 hours weekly. The PCU department is a 36-bed unit with a nurse/patient ratio of 1:4, depending on acuity. The patient population includes intermediate/telemetry level of care for post-acute stroke, general medical, endocrine GI/renal patients. Texas Health Southwest is a MAGNET facility, a Level III Trauma Center, a Primary Stroke center, and a Stroke/Neuro designated unit. The position offers self-scheduling to support work/life balance and provides excellent opportunities for educational and career growth, including advancement into leadership roles.

Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required
  • Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire
  • BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly
  • ACLS – within 90 days of hire
  • CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 90 days of hire
  • NIHSS – within 90 days of hire
  • 1-year experience as a registered nurse or completion of an RN residency program required
  • Demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality
  • Positive interpersonal skills
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment
  • Exhibits understanding of basic human needs
  • Demonstrates recognition and understanding of patient’s affiliations

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred
  • PCU/Tele experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process
  • assesses the patient
  • plans the care of the patient
  • intervenes as appropriate
  • evaluates the effectiveness of interventions
  • Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
  • Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information
  • Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers
