About The Position

The Director of Quality & Staff Education is responsible for leading the hospital’s quality improvement program while overseeing clinical education and staff competency development across the organization. This role ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care through data-driven quality initiatives, regulatory compliance, and ongoing clinical training for nursing and interdisciplinary staff. Working in a high-acuity Critical Care / Long-Term Acute Care Hospital (LTAC) environment, the Director focuses on improving patient outcomes for medically complex patients, including those requiring ventilator management, complex wound care, and extended critical care services. The role supports regulatory readiness, monitors key clinical quality indicators, and develops educational programs that ensure staff maintain the highest standards of clinical practice. The Director partners closely with executive leadership, nursing leadership, physicians, and clinical teams to drive continuous improvement, strengthen clinical competencies, and maintain compliance with CMS, Joint Commission, and other regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in healthcare quality improvement, clinical education, or leadership roles.
  • Experience working with Joint Commission and CMS regulatory standards.
  • Strong knowledge of clinical quality metrics, infection prevention, and patient safety programs.
  • Experience with EHR systems and quality reporting tools.
  • Strong data analysis and performance improvement skills.
  • Excellent clinical education, leadership, and communication abilities.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in a high-acuity hospital environment.
  • Ability to project a professional image.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements.
  • Strong organizational, prioritizing and analytical skills.
  • Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
  • Working knowledge of computer and software applications used in job functions.
  • Freedom from illegal use of and effects of use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Experience in Critical Care, LTAC, Acute Care Hospital, or ICU environments strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the hospital’s Quality Improvement (QI) and Performance Improvement (PI) programs focused on improving clinical outcomes for critically ill patients.
  • Monitor and analyze key clinical quality indicators including infection rates, ventilator-associated events, readmissions, patient safety events, and mortality trends.
  • Implement evidence-based performance improvement methodologies such as Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycles.
  • Develop and present quality performance reports and dashboards to executive leadership and medical staff.
  • Identify opportunities to improve patient outcomes, care coordination, and clinical processes.
  • Ensure organizational compliance with CMS, Joint Commission, and state regulatory standards.
  • Lead hospital survey readiness efforts, audits, and accreditation activities.
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and clinical protocols aligned with regulatory requirements and evidence-based practices.
  • Oversee risk management, incident reporting, patient safety initiatives, and grievance processes.
  • Design and implement clinical education and competency programs for nursing and interdisciplinary staff.
  • Provide education on critical care practices, ventilator management, infection prevention, wound care, and clinical documentation standards.
  • Lead new hire clinical orientation programs, annual competencies, and continuing education initiatives.
  • Train staff on quality improvement methodologies, patient safety protocols, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with nursing leadership to address performance gaps and strengthen staff competency.
  • Track and analyze hospital quality metrics and performance indicators including infection control, patient safety events, and clinical outcomes.
  • Work with department leaders to implement targeted improvement initiatives.
  • Support the development of evidence-based clinical protocols and best practices for critically ill patient populations.
  • Serve as a clinical leader and subject matter expert in quality improvement and staff education.
  • Partner with Chief Nursing Officer, medical staff, infection prevention, and department leaders to drive quality initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of patient safety, clinical excellence, and continuous improvement across the hospital.
  • Mentor and support clinical staff in maintaining high standards of care for medically complex patients.
