About The Position
PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center is hiring a Patient Sitter for its Emergency Department in Springfield, Oregon. The role provides continuous observation, reassurance, and support to patients who need additional monitoring, helping maintain a safe and respectful environment. Patient Sitters work closely with nurses and other members of the care team in a fast-paced Emergency Department and communicate observations and safety concerns promptly. This is a full-time position at 0.90 FTE on the night shift, scheduled from 1900 to 0730. The pay range is $20.07–$30.78 per hour; the hiring rate depends on factors including education, training, work experience, applicable collective bargaining agreement terms, and seniority. The position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement. PeaceHealth describes its mission and workplace as grounded in compassion, respect, inclusion, teamwork, and cultural humility. Requirements
- Hold Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Remain attentive, alert, and engaged throughout the shift.
- Have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Respond calmly and appropriately in changing situations.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of patient care, caregiving, healthcare, behavioral health, or related experience.
- Healthcare experience is helpful.
Responsibilities
- Stay with and continuously observe assigned patients.
- Calmly redirect behaviors that could place patients at risk.
- Immediately alert nursing staff when a patient needs assistance or their condition changes.
- Provide reassurance, comfort, and clear explanations to patients as appropriate.
- Partner with nurses and the care team to support patient safety plans.
- Monitor the patient environment and report potential safety concerns.
- Participate in shift-change handoffs to support seamless patient care.
- Maintain a respectful and compassionate presence with patients, families, and visitors.
- Communicate observations clearly and promptly to the healthcare team.
