About The Position

A Care Companion provides basic health care and support to patients under the guidance of a Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional. The role includes supporting patients’ comfort and personal care, helping meet basic needs, creating a safe environment, and communicating patient concerns to nursing staff. The position is at St. Mary’s Hospital and is PRN, with rotating shifts across all shifts.

Requirements

• Possess problem-solving skills and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner.
• Be able to act proactively in a rapidly changing environment.

Nice To Haves

• Recent experience in a healthcare environment is preferred, but not required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is preferred upon hire; it must be obtained from an approved source before providing direct patient care.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care and comfort, including personal care and hygiene, toileting, and mobility assistance.
• Create a safe environment for patients.
• Act as a liaison between patients and nurses by reporting changes or concerns.
• Provide high-level customer service to patients, patients’ families, visitors, and employees.
• Participate in hand-off/reporting of pertinent information about patient and departmental needs when arriving and leaving.
