About The Position

A Care Companion provides basic health care and support to patients under the guidance of a Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional. Responsibilities include supporting patient comfort and basic needs, maintaining a safe environment, and reporting changes or concerns to nursing staff. The role also includes sanitizing and cleaning patient rooms, monitoring patients’ health and vital signs, and helping with feeding and grooming. This is a PRN position at St. Mary's Hospital with rotating shifts and PRN all-shift availability.

Requirements

• Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved source before providing direct patient care.
• Possess problem-solving skills and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner.
• Be able to act proactively in a rapidly changing environment.

Nice To Haves

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association preferred upon hire.
• Recent experience in a healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care and comfort, including personal care and hygiene, toileting, and mobility assistance.
• Create a safe environment for patients.
• Act as a liaison between patients and nurses by reporting changes or concerns.
• Provide high-level customer service to patients, patients’ families, visitors, and employees.
• Participate in hand-off reports about pertinent patient and departmental needs upon arrival and when leaving.
• Sanitize and clean patient rooms.
• Monitor patients’ health and vital signs.
• Assist patients with basic needs such as feeding and grooming.
