About The Position
The Patient Sitter works in the Sitters Department at Texas Health Kaufman, a full-service hospital serving Kaufman County and surrounding communities. The role supports patient safety by observing patients, collecting and reporting requested information, communicating unusual activity to staff, and coordinating coverage for breaks. The position is PRN on days.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- No experience required.
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification before providing independent patient care, maintained quarterly.
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training, maintained annually; required within 90 days.
- High degree of confidentiality, patience, and positive interpersonal skills.
Nice To Haves
- Hospital experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Stay in the room, as appropriate, and watch the patient at all times.
- Collect data on the patient's activities and verbalizations as requested and report findings to the nurse.
- Report unusual verbal or physical activities using the call bell, emergency call bell, or Vocera.
- Coordinate with staff when a lunch, dinner, or restroom break is needed.
- Attend training and education appropriate to the care setting and practice.
- Participate in department or hospital process-improvement activities as requested.
- Follow accepted scheduling guidelines.
