About The Position
This position performs nonprofessional direct and indirect patient care activities, including meeting patients’ personal, physical, and comfort needs, under the supervision of a registered professional nurse. The role provides high-quality patient care in coordination with licensed medical staff. The position is part of the Float Pool and includes assisting with general patient care and department operations. Duties may vary, and the listed responsibilities are not all-inclusive. Other duties may be assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
- Ability to effectively communicate with staff and patients.
- Ability to adapt to changing environments.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of heavy/hard work, including lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, and walking.

Responsibilities
- Observe patients and immediately report concerns or changes in condition to a registered nurse.
- Assist the Registered Nurse with patient admission, transfer, discharge, and general care duties.
- Record vital signs, oral intake, and outputs; assist with personal hygiene and other comfort measures.
- Assist with specimen collection and other activities for assigned patients.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment to help prevent or control infections and support the safety of patients, visitors, and employees.
- Report equipment repair needs to appropriate personnel in a timely manner according to departmental procedure.
- Prepare patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to departmental procedure.
- Communicate nutrition issues, such as poor appetite or lack of understanding of diet changes, to the RN.
- Assist the department with administrative tasks that support operations.
- Answer patient call bells and relay messages to appropriate personnel.
- For facilities with specialty accreditation requirements, complete annual required education related to specialty accreditation, which may include CBLs, trainings, in-services, and competency validation.
