About The Position

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Patient Safety Advocate maintains constant visual observation of an assigned patient and helps provide a safe and clean environment. The role communicates observations about the patient’s activity and behavior to the assigned nurse on a regular basis. It also requires professional communication and respect for patients, families or significant others, and other healthcare members, as well as offering support to peers and staff.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.
• Ability to communicate in English orally and in writing.
• Obtain BLS (AHA) certification within 90 days of hire and maintain current certification; training will be provided by the hospital.
• Complete Behavioral Violence Prevention (BVP) training within 90 days of hire and every two years thereafter.

Responsibilities

• Maintain constant visual observation of assigned patient under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Assist in providing a safe and clean environment.
• Regularly communicate observations of the patient’s activity and behavior to the assigned nurse.
• Communicate professionally and demonstrate respect for patients, families or significant others, and other healthcare members.
• Offer support to peers and staff.
