About The Position

This position is for an Occupational Therapist (OT) PRN role within the Acute Rehabilitation Unit at UK King's Daughter Medical Center in Ashland, KY. Lifepoint Rehabilitation, part of Lifepoint Health, is dedicated to making communities healthier by prioritizing employee well-being to enable exceptional patient care. The role involves assuming responsibility for patient care overseen by Certified Occupational Therapist Assistants, rehabilitation technicians, and students. The OT will assess patient needs, initiate appropriate interventions, collaborate with the patient care team, and monitor treatment effectiveness. They will also perform patient assessments, reassessments, and accurate QI scoring. The patient population includes adult and geriatric patients requiring an adult medical rehabilitation program. The OT will manage patient pain that interferes with rehabilitation, optimize patient safety, and report patient progress and discharge barriers in team conferences. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Current licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the state where the hospital is located.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.

  • Previous experience in all aspects of occupational therapy preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for the care of patients treated by Certified Occupational Therapist Assistants, rehabilitation technicians, and occupational therapy students.
  • May be assigned to orient staff and students and assume the duties and responsibilities of the supervisor in the absence of that individual as qualified to do so.
  • Assesses patients’ needs; identifies and initiates appropriate occupational therapy interventions.
  • Works cooperatively with other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional occupational therapy practice and interdisciplinary teamwork.
  • Observes and evaluates treatment affect, accomplishment of short and long term goals.
  • Recommends change to physician, if needed.
  • Performs an appropriate assessment on each patient and performs reassessments, as per policy.
  • Performs accurate and timely QI scoring.
  • Able to assess patient pain interfering with optimal level of function of participation in rehabilitation; makes appropriate interventions to reduce pain; makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Reports patient progress and barriers to discharge in each patient team conference.
  • Other duties as assigned.
