About The Position
The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston seeks a Founding Section Chief and Director to establish and lead a new Section of Neurogastroenterology & Motility. The Section Chief will develop a comprehensive clinical, research, and educational program for patients with gastrointestinal motility disorders and disorders of gut–brain interaction. The program will be based in the Texas Medical Center and serve a diverse and rapidly growing region. The position reports to the Division Director. The role includes developing the Section’s strategic vision, directing and expanding the motility laboratory, creating a multidisciplinary care model, recruiting and mentoring faculty and staff, developing an advanced fellowship, and building a research portfolio. The Section Chief will also provide direct patient care and procedural services, participate in medical education and Division and Department leadership, and carry out other duties as assigned. The institution offers commitment and resources to build the Section, academic rank commensurate with experience, and support for faculty and staff recruitment.
Requirements
- MD, DO, or equivalent degree.
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited fellowship in gastroenterology, or equivalent.
- Board certification in gastroenterology.
- Advanced training or demonstrated expertise in neurogastroenterology and motility.
- Eligibility for an unrestricted Texas medical license.

Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the strategic vision for the Section’s clinical, research, and educational missions.
- Direct the operations and expansion of the motility laboratory, including high-resolution manometry, pH-impedance testing, EndoFLIP, and anorectal manometry.
- Establish a multidisciplinary care model in collaboration with GI psychology, nutrition, pelvic floor therapy, and surgical services.
- Recruit, develop, and mentor Section faculty and staff.
- Lead the development of an advanced fellowship in neurogastroenterology and motility.
- Build a portfolio of investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored research.
- Provide direct patient care and procedural services in neurogastroenterology and motility.
- Participate in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows.
- Participate in Division and Department leadership, committees, and quality initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
