About The Position

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited program for licensed vocational or practical nurses.
• Current Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse license.
• BLS certification required.
• Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on the patient's age and clinical condition.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Ability to organize tasks, develop action plans, set priorities, and function under stressful situations.
• Ability to maintain good working relationships within the department and with other departments.
• Good and regular attendance.
• Fluent English reading, writing, and speaking skills.

Nice To Haves

• Intravenous Therapy and Blood Certifications preferred.
• Minimum six months of prior experience in an acute care setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Administer medications, perform treatments, and provide patient care as prescribed under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Keep the Registered Nurse informed about activities, symptoms, reactions, and changes in assigned patients’ conditions.
• Provide appropriate pain-management techniques and educate patients and families about pain management.
• Administer medication within scope of practice and follow the five rights of medication administration.
• Assist with rehabilitation and treatment in accordance with the medical plan of care, and update or revise the plan under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Assist physicians with examinations, treatments, and special procedures, and perform technical and manual services as directed by the Registered Nurse.
• Treat patients and families with respect and dignity, and identify and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious or spiritual needs.
• Interact professionally with patients and families and involve them in forming the plan of care.
• Identify and address psychosocial needs and communicate with Social Services or the Discharge Planner about in-hospital and post-discharge needs.
• Interpret patient-status data to identify age-specific needs and provide appropriate care.
• Provide patient care in an environment that promotes safety and reduces the likelihood of medical or healthcare errors.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
