About The Position
Aquatics team members are responsible for delivering exceptional customer service and ensuring a safe, enjoyable experience for all participants during recreational swims and instructional programs. In this dynamic and rewarding role, you will supervise aquatic activities with a focus on safety, lead both individual and group swimming lessons, and help swimmers of all ages build confidence and skills in the water. You will also collaborate closely with a supportive team of staff and volunteers, maintain a clean and safe pool environment, and uphold all health and safety standards. This position offers opportunities for professional growth through ongoing training, certification upgrades, and leadership development. Aquatics team members work a variety of shifts including morning, evening, weekends, and public holidays and are scheduled based on the needs of the branch. This is a great opportunity for an individual with a high level of interest in working with the YMCA HBB as a charitable organization.
Requirements
- Current Standard First Aid & CPR C
- National Lifeguard Certification
- Lifesaving Society and/or YMCA Swim Instructor Certification
- Vulnerable Sector Check

Responsibilities
- Provide consistent lifeguard coverage, ensuring the safety of all pool users.
- Uphold YMCA policies and health regulations while delivering excellent customer service.
- Teach, guard, and coach a variety of aquatic programs.
- Develop lesson plans, conduct progressive evaluations, and maintain accurate records.
- Maintain water quality and deck equipment, ensuring the cleanliness and safety of the aquatic environment.
- Work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers.
- Maintain current certifications, attend scheduled training sessions, and pursue ongoing professional development.
