Medical Laboratory Technician- Part Time

About The Position

Responsible for laboratory testing, quality control, phlebotomy, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting. Perform manual and automated routine blood tests. Prepare specimens for microscope examination. Operate laboratory equipment including centrifuges, dry bath incubators, and blood bank refrigerators. This role involves performing proper quality control procedures before proceeding with patient testing. Ensure that proper documentation including test report logs, quality control logs, equipment records, and all lab procedure and training checklists are completed on the correct time schedule, specifically in the central lab. The technician will maintain adequate inventory of laboratory supplies and place orders with purchasing as needed. They will perform technical laboratory procedures with accuracy and precision, meeting the standard of all accreditation/regulatory agencies. Instrument maintenance is required at the specified times and as needed, and troubleshooting procedures must be initiated when instrument malfunction occurs, including contacting instrument service companies if necessary. Compliance with established safety guidelines and maintaining cleanliness of the laboratory and equipment are essential. The position requires completing any and all duties to keep the laboratory in compliance with state and federal regulatory agencies, including performing compliance testing. Maintaining and ensuring the confidentiality of all patient and employee information at all times is critical. The technician must comply with all Federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to patient care, patient’s rights, safety, billing, and collections, and adhere to all AON and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and procedures and the Disaster Recovery Plan. Maintaining an MLT license and required CEUs is mandatory. The role also involves assisting in training new employees for related job duties and working overtime when given sufficient notice.

Requirements

  • A.A. or A.S. degree
  • Appropriate state license required
  • Minimum of four years experience in the healthcare field

Nice To Haves

  • National lab certification preferred
  • BLS preferred
  • Experience preferably in a clinical setting
