About The Position

SOCOTEC is seeking a Construction Materials Testing Laboratory Technician to test soils, concrete, aggregates, and asphalt in support of construction materials testing projects. The technician conducts laboratory tests, maintains accurate records, and ensures compliance with applicable ASTM, AASHTO, company, safety, and project requirements. This is a hands-on role in a non-clean laboratory environment that involves handling heavy materials and equipment.

Requirements

• Strong mathematical skills and ability to perform testing calculations accurately.
• Basic computer proficiency and experience entering and maintaining testing data.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds regularly; the position also involves lifting heavy concrete cylinders and equipment up to 100 pounds.
• Knowledge of ASTM, AASHTO, and industry-standard laboratory testing procedures.

Nice To Haves

• Experience performing laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, and/or asphalt materials.
• ATTI/ASTM/AASHTO Soils and Aggregate certification.
• ATTI Asphalt certification.
• ACI Concrete Strength Testing certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and company procedures.
• Conduct tests such as Proctor compaction, sieve analysis, Atterberg Limits, sand equivalent, uncompacted voids, and compression testing.
• Perform asphalt testing, including ignition oven, Marshall/Gyratory, and maximum theoretical density (Rice) testing.
• Receive, sample, split, process, and prepare materials for testing.
• Accurately record, calculate, and report test results.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, testing areas, and quality control documentation.
• Ensure testing follows applicable standards, safety requirements, and laboratory procedures.
• Assist with laboratory operations and perform other duties as assigned.
