The Patient Access Representative (PAR) primarily handles patient registration and scheduling, with duties varying by setting. In a registration role, the PAR greets patients, verifies demographics, manages paperwork, creates electronic files, educates patients on forms, establishes financial responsibility, and collects payments. They also resolve registration-related issues like work queue errors and denied insurance claims. In a scheduling role, the PAR schedules appointments and procedures, coordinates referrals, conducts pre-authorization, arranges interpreter services, and manages patient check-ins/outs. They collaborate with the nursing team and providers to coordinate schedules, resolve work queue issues, and manage recall and waitlists. Additional duties may include chart preparation, financial assistance coordination, tracking visits, health information management, report generation, assessment administration, Telemed coordination, and general office tasks. The PAR is expected to mentor new staff, maintain professionalism, promote respect, ensure confidentiality, and demonstrate excellent customer service and empathy.
