About The Position

Requirements

• Knowledge, skill, and ability to apply coating principles and practices and identify and correct coating problems such as fish-eye defects, poor adhesion, and rough coatings.
• Ability to set, use, and read measuring instruments such as viscosity testers and thickness gauges.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches.
• Ability to interpret specifications and standards to determine color, coating thickness, mixing instructions, and other factors affecting the finished product.
• Ability to use tools and equipment needed for industrial coating operations.
• Good listening and communication skills and the ability to work well with others as a team member.
• Ability to frequently stand, walk, talk or hear, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms during the work shift.
• Ability to occasionally climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Required vision includes close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to use written and oral communication, read and interpret data and documents, analyze and solve problems, use math, observe and interpret situations, learn and apply new information or skills, and interact with employees, customers, and vendors.
• Ability to work the second shift, 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., after first-shift training.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces by masking and cleaning them before coating.
• Operate a wet-paint Graco system to spray industrial paint finishes on metal and other surfaces.
• Inspect painted units for runs, debris, fish-eye defects, and uncoated areas; ensure coatings meet specified thickness, hardness, gloss, and color requirements.
• Inspect and replace paint-gun components to maintain optimum performance.
• Perform daily checks and maintenance.
• Assist with daily 5S and cleaning procedures.
• Clean paint from booth ceilings and walls, conveyor hooks or grids, spray heads, and hoses.
• Replace paint-booth air filters weekly.
• Respray the inside of the paint booth with peel-away coating monthly.
• Touch up defective areas of coated items.
• Assist other operators and help others find solutions to quality and production issues.
• Perform other duties as required or assigned.
