About The Position

Requirements

• 2–4 years of histology experience.
• Intermediate computer skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Manual dexterity and strong attention to detail.
• Basic understanding of H&E staining.
• Knowledge and understanding of Alcian Blue and PAS stains.
• Basic understanding of histology special stains, the tissue components they stain for, and use of appropriate controls.

Nice To Haves

• ASCP HT Certification.
• Associate's degree in biology or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Clean and set up the work area, instruments, water bath, microtome, and workbench daily.
• Embed routine non-dermatology anatomical pathology tissue specimens in paraffin.
• Produce quality sections from routine paraffin-embedded anatomical pathology specimens, including levels, recuts, and re-embeds.
• Perform staining and check H&E controls for stain quality.
• Maintain the Prisma stainer and coverslipper daily and troubleshoot Prisma stainer issues.
• Retrieve the correct tissue blocks and slides from storage areas.
• Maintain the special-stain control bank and cut control blocks as needed.
• Prioritize testing procedures and complete them accurately and promptly.
• Maintain accurate records of tests in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations.
