About The Position
The school counselor provides services that help students develop academic, personal/social, and career competencies. Working with students, staff, families, and community members as an integral part of the education program, the counselor promotes school success through academic advisement, prevention and intervention activities, post-secondary education and career planning, and guidance on personal/social issues. The counselor collaborates with the counseling department to provide a comprehensive guidance program at the assigned school, advocates for students, and uses computer technology, program knowledge, and accurate record keeping to support course selection and progress toward graduation and post-secondary education. The counselor also carries out duties required by State Statutes, Board policies, and the Professional Agreement.
Requirements
- Current Arizona School Counselor certificate.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn transcript evaluation and interpretation.
- Knowledge of test interpretation.
- Knowledge of or experience in vocational/career planning.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic influences on students.
- Knowledge of individual and group counseling techniques.
- Awareness of new and changing developments in the counseling and education profession.
- Computer literacy.
Nice To Haves
- Secondary school counseling or teaching experience preferred.
Responsibilities
