Requirements

• Knowledge of MATHEMATICAL CALCULATIONS.
• Knowledge of STANDARD SAFETY RULES AND PROCEDURES.
• Knowledge of THE PROCEDURES, TECHNIQUES AND USE OF EQUIPMENT IN THE MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR OF HIGHWAYS, BRIDGES AND/OR OTHER HIGHWAY STRUCTURES.
• Skills in OPERATING A VARIETY OF HAND AND POWER TOOLS.
• Skills in OPERATING AND PERFORMING MINOR MAINTENANCE ON LARGE EQUIPMENT AND VEHICLES.
• Skills in COMPLETING JOB RELATED REPORTS AND FORMS.
• Skills in COMMUNICATING BOTH VERBALLY AND IN WRITING, INCLUDING FOLLOWING ORAL/WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS.

• Ability to STAND FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME.
• Must be United States (U.S.) citizens or lawfully authorized alien workers.
• A valid Class "A" CDL is required at time hire.
• Must obtain certification in Maintenance of Traffic - Intermediate Level within one year and maintain it.
• High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency and four years of infrastructure construction or maintenance experience.
• An additional year of experience for a total of five years of experience, in infrastructure construction or maintenance is a substitute for a High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency.
• A valid Class “A” CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) is required at time of hire.
• Applicants must register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Drug and Alcohol (FMCSA) Clearinghouse.
• To be considered for employment, applicants must meet the qualifications outlined in Title 49 CFR Part 391.11.

Responsibilities

• Operates vehicles and a variety of large equipment to include, but not limited to; road graders, sewer cleaner and hydraulic excavators in bridge and roadway maintenance.
• Performs minor maintenance and servicing work in connection with any type of equipment operated and assists in the repairs of this equipment; check and add fluids, checks/adjusts brakes, maintains proper air pressure in all tires, etc.
• Cleans and washes equipment.
• Coordinates, participates, and directs the maintenance activity of the assigned crew.
• Assists in selecting materials, supplies, equipment, inspecting, planning workloads, work flows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with employees.
• Maintains records of operation.
• Prepares and maintains daily paperwork such as crew activity reports and daily vehicle check lists.
• Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments.
• Performs Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).
• Performs rough carpentry, masonry, painting and/or assists in the assembly and erection of highway signs.
• Trains crew members in the operation of heavy equipment and of basic Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).
• Assists with crew activity reports as needed.
