About The Position

Responsible for performing electric distribution line design, including AutoCAD drafting as a primary activity, and assisting with all areas of electrical engineering division responsibility. Perform engineering division field surveying and staking tasks. Works directly with internal and external stakeholders to prepare and manage work associated with provision or improvement of electric service. Research technically and economically viable options used to prepare designs for extension and modifications to the electric utility distribution system, assemble project documentation and maintain organized files and records. Utilize AutoCAD to prepare detailed drawings to support the functions of the Distribution Electrical Engineering division, including but not limited to, preparation of details plans for construction of electric facilities. Draft detailed plans, construction drawings, topographic profiles, work order layouts, maps, and related drawings used in the planning, design, and construction of electric facilities. Perform surveying functions, including but not limited to, staking line, locating easements, rights-of-way, gather data for preparing site profiles, profile transmission and distribution line routes, and complete surveying calculations. Work with and assist internal stakeholders to complete necessary fieldwork; assist with production of project documents, standards, specification, and other items as required. Assist with calculations, drawings, and other items necessary to support electrical and distribution structural design. Develop and provide project management oversight as directed. Obtain, track, and maintain data collection in the field for electric utility facilities, including but not limited to, transformers, capacitors, line reclosers, switches, poles, street and security lighting, and secondary service routing. Assist with interpreting and implementing the National Electrical Safety Code and other Federal, State, and/or Local and regulatory codes. Assist with developing, documenting, reviewing, and completing all aspects of assigned projects; prepare and maintains files and documentation for identifying the most limiting series elements for the distribution system.

Requirements

  • Electric Engineering Tech I: High School diploma or equivalent; and, One (1) year experience in engineering or related field, OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
  • Electric Engineering Tech II: High School diploma or equivalent; and, Three (3) years' experience in engineering or related field, OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
  • Electric Engineering Technician III: Bachelor’s Degree, from an accredited college or university in Engineering or related field; and, One (1) year experience in field surveying, OR High School diploma or equivalent; and, Five (5) years’ experience in engineering or related field; and, One (1) year experience in field surveying, OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
  • Electric Engineering Technician IV: Bachelor's Degree, from an accredited college or university in Engineering or related field; and, Two (2) years'' experience in field surveying, OR High School diploma or equivalent; and, Six (6) years' experience in engineering or related field; and, Two (2) years' experience in field surveying, OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, State and Local laws, codes, and regulations, as well as City of Denton policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of surveying principles, standard concepts, practices, and procedures in electric distribution design.
  • Skill in field surveying, research, design, and equipment resources and adhere to guidelines and engineering specifications.
  • Skill in problem solving; identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to assist with developing solutions.
  • Skill at the intermediate level, working with Microsoft Office 365, drafting, and other software systems to complete work.
  • Skill in performing mathematical calculations with accuracy.
  • Skill in providing exceptional service to internal and external customers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in oral and written forms, for the needs of the audience.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing work environment to facilitate/accomplish needed activities.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and construct construction drawings, topographic profiles, work order layouts, maps, and related drawings.
  • Ability to document all adjustments necessary and approved to complete the project.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow safety protocols and safe work procedures.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Class "C" Driver's License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment.
  • Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification.

Responsibilities
