About The Position

A cable locator is a specialized technician responsible for identifying and marking the location of underground utilities to prevent damage during excavation activities. This role is crucial for maintaining the integrity of underground utility infrastructures and ensuring the safety of excavation projects.

Requirements

  • Experience in utility locating or a related field.
  • Proficiency in using utility locating equipment to detect and map underground utilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret utility maps/prints.
  • Own a reliable vehicle.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in various environmental conditions.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to Call Tickets to locate underground utilities.
  • Correctly, safely, and efficiently locate electric cable.
  • Thoroughly search for underground utilities in a designated area, accurately marking the location.
  • Complete necessary documentation and photograph each locate for record-keeping.
  • Interpret utility maps and as-built drawings to determine the path of underground utilities.
  • Communicate effectively with construction crews, contractors, and property owners.
  • Prepare written documents verifying marked utilities after damages.
  • Distinguish colors to mark utilities with the designated color for the corresponding utility.
