About The Position

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in education, mathematics, curriculum development, or a related field.
• At least three years of experience in elementary mathematics instruction, curriculum development, or assessment writing.
• Deep knowledge of elementary mathematics content and learning progressions across Grades 2–5, particularly operations, place value, multiplication, division, fractions, and mathematical modeling.
• Demonstrated expertise designing rigorous mathematics content that integrates conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and mathematical reasoning.
• Ability to design complex multistep tasks requiring synthesis, transfer, justification, and mathematical reasoning.
• Ability to develop problems that ask students to explain, justify, and represent mathematical relationships rather than simply calculate answers.
• Ability to independently produce polished, mathematically accurate, student-facing materials and accompanying exemplar solutions.
• Strong attention to detail and a high bar for excellence.
• Ability to incorporate feedback, remain organized and flexible, and manage deliverables within agreed timelines.
• Permanent authorization to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

• Prior mathematics curriculum or assessment-writing experience; candidates are encouraged to submit original instructional materials demonstrating conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and complex multistep tasks.
• Experience developing rigorous elementary mathematics curriculum, instructional materials, or assessments.
• Familiarity with Open Up Resources, Illustrative Mathematics, or similarly rigorous, problem-based mathematics curricula.

Responsibilities

• Develop rigorous Grades 2–5 mathematics content, including problems, instructional tasks, practice materials, lessons, and assessments aligned to New York State Next Generation Mathematics Learning Standards and Zeta’s academic vision.
• Design complex multistep tasks requiring students to synthesize mathematical concepts, apply knowledge in unfamiliar contexts, construct and evaluate models, justify reasoning, and develop original solution approaches.
• Integrate conceptual understanding with procedural fluency in problems that require accurate and efficient use of procedures and understanding of the concepts and relationships behind them.
• Design tasks that require students to select, construct, and interpret visual models, equations, and other representations of mathematical actions and relationships.
• Develop student-facing problems, independent practice tasks, lessons, instructional activities, reteach and revision materials, assessments, and performance-based tasks.
• Create exemplar solutions, mathematical models, answer keys, and scoring guidance.
• Ensure materials align with grade-level mathematical progressions across Grades 2–5.
• Collaborate with Elementary Mathematics leadership to establish content priorities, review deliverables, incorporate feedback, and refine materials using instructional needs, student work, and assessment data.
• Maintain mathematical accuracy and instructional quality, ensuring materials are clear, accessible, appropriately challenging, and ready for classroom implementation.
• Manage deliverables within agreed-upon timelines and incorporate feedback into revisions.
