About The Position

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship.
• Successfully pass a background investigation, including review of financial matters and certain criminal offenses and illegal drug use or possession; Top Secret/SCI clearance investigation required as a condition of placement.
• Meet time-in-grade requirements where applicable; current or former federal employees must provide SF-50 documentation demonstrating status and time-in-grade eligibility.
• At least one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-13 level, including program evaluation, supervision of law enforcement staff, coordination with law enforcement partners, and leadership of investigative operations.
• Possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Sign a mobility agreement and be willing to be reassigned to a different geographic location.
• Be available for unscheduled duty hours based on agency needs; position is subject to Law Enforcement Availability Pay provisions.
• Carry firearms and maintain proficiency in their care and use in accordance with FPS policies and standards.
• Not have a conviction for a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence, under the Lautenberg Amendment.
• Successfully complete the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center Criminal Investigator Training Program or equivalent.
• Be determined physically fit by an authorized government physician to perform strenuous and physically demanding duties; periodic incumbent examinations may apply.
• Meet the maximum entry age requirement: before the 37th birthday, except for veterans’ preference eligibles and certain applicants previously employed in covered federal law enforcement positions.
• Have experience in a primary/rigorous law enforcement position or equivalent experience outside the federal government.
• Complete a pre-employment drug test and be subject to random drug testing.
• Complete an Optional Form 306 and certify the accuracy of application information if given a conditional offer.
• Register for Selective Service or be exempt if male and born after December 31, 1959.
• Serve a one-year supervisory probationary period if applicable; an appropriate supervisory training course may also be required within one year of assignment.
• File an initial and annual Office of Government Ethics Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE Form 450).

Responsibilities

• Plan, assign, and review work; provide guidance and training; evaluate employee performance; address conduct and performance issues; and ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
• Provide expert technical advice and recommendations to senior management on significant investigations and security operations.
• Direct law enforcement services concerning criminal and suspicious activity, personnel accidents, and violations of building regulations at federal facilities.
• Participate in national-level policy discussions and develop new and precedent-setting security programs based on congressional mandates, Executive Orders, and Director of National Intelligence guidance.
• Oversee and recommend improvements to investigative, security, and intelligence program operations.
• Evaluate investigative, law enforcement, and/or security programs, policies, and procedures for compliance and operational effectiveness.
• Coordinate with law enforcement partners and personnel to conduct criminal investigations and law enforcement activities.
• Lead or direct investigative operations by identifying risks, providing guidance, and managing program and operational resources.
