About The Position

CNS is seeking a Construction & Electrical Inspector to observe and inspect the process and products of the construction contractor to ensure compliance with plans and specifications, monitor construction contractor safety compliance, communicate with the team to inform them of developments in the progress of the work, and document construction project activities through written reports and photographs.

Requirements

  • Experience and demonstrate proficiency in performing construction inspection within the last five years to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Knowledge and experience with mechanical and electrical work such as exciter, governor, and control system replacements, including the following: Extensive depth and breadth of experience in electrical construction and control system installation oversight/inspection for protection relays, pump/generator control systems, and power distribution to ensure that all materials and work performed at the site by the construction contractor are in compliance with the construction contract requirements.
  • Extensive experience associated with hydro-generator testing, including reporting problems and/or concerns.
  • Ability to determine wiring defects, grounding non-conformance, failures, issues, and repairs of a complex nature.
  • Extensive experience inspecting or oversight of inspection for power distribution, relay protection, and control upgrades with at least one (1) turbine or pump unit exciter or control system upgrade/replacement.
  • General knowledge of OSHA construction safety, including fall protection (certification within the last three years).
  • The construction inspector shall have training/certifications in the following: Hearing Conservation, Hazard Communication, FIST 1-1 Hazardous Energy Protection (Lock-Out-Tag-Out) and Fall Protection.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office (Teams, Word, Excel, etc.), Adobe professional, and email.
  • Ability to communicate proficiently at a standard government document level both orally and in writing.
  • Proficient use of a camera, framing images, renaming image files, transferring images, and incorporating photography and captioning into a report.
  • Required mental and physical ability to work the required hours, in ambient weather conditions, and mobilize around power plants and construction site.
  • CI must follow Safety and Health Standards.
  • Proactive and self-motivated.
  • Performs in a professional, responsible manner.
  • Works independently and as a team member and follows industry standards.
  • Demonstrates proficiency on construction projects at managing time efficiently, working independently, and adhering to schedule (advises the RE, but does not direct the construction contractor).
  • Keeps the COR advised of the CI’s performance and travel.
  • In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Safety and Health Standards as they apply to construction is preferred but not required.
  • FIST 1-1 (HECP-Hazardous Energy Control Program) training requirements and obtaining a lock will be coordinated with before CI is on-site.

Responsibilities

  • Performs assigned, routine visual inspections and other specified tests on raw materials, goods in process, and finished products.
  • Tests, inspects, and approves raw materials based on established quality specifications.
  • Uses observation and testing to identify faults in materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Uses statistical methods to test product samples to evaluate quality of full product batch prior to delivery to clients or customers.
  • Compares results of inspections and tests to company's quality standards; reports results to supervisor for final analysis and action steps.
  • Develops, maintains, and posts logs, charts, and forms detailing quality levels, inspection data, and results of special quality studies for review by line mechanics, supervisors, and other production staff.
  • Consults with supervisor to determine appropriate recommendations and remedies for questionable products.
  • Maintains quality records as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
