About The Position
A Patient Care Technician (PCT) works with nurses and doctors to care for patients, performing tasks such as checking vital signs, assisting patients with movement, dressing, and eating, and collecting samples. They work under the supervision of a nurse to ensure safe and correct procedures. The role may also include duties as a Unit Clerk (HUC), assisting with paperwork and other administrative tasks to ensure the hospital runs smoothly and patients receive optimal care. PCTs are essential members of the healthcare team dedicated to patient well-being and recovery.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- BLS CPR certificate (can be obtained at orientation)
- Finished STNA, CNA, or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training OR Helped care for patients in the past 5 years (like taking their temperature, bathing them, or helping them use the restroom) OR Currently in nursing school and finished one clinical rotation
- Ability to handle doing many things simultaneously, even when people interrupt you, and still be nice
- Proficiency in using a computer
- Good organizational skills
- Ability to talk and listen well to others

Responsibilities
- Check vital signs (temperature, heartbeat, breathing)
- Help patients move around, get dressed, and eat
- Collect samples like urine
- Report any changes in a patient's condition to a nurse
- Help with patient walks, hygiene, weighing patients, vitals
- Assist with paperwork and other tasks that keep the hospital running smoothly
