The Clinical Lab Technologist performs technical laboratory procedures in chemistry/hematology or other assigned lab, as directed by the Laboratory Manager or Principal Investigator. This role involves performing technical procedures in chemistry/hematology including but not limited to coagulation and urinalysis, performing periodic maintenance on instrumentation/equipment, and maintaining documentation. The technologist is responsible for quality control and calibration procedures, ensuring all required quality control and calibration procedures are completed, and maintaining all records as per regulatory requirements. They will consult with the Supervisor or Pathologist on important results, review critical test results, and communicate them to nursing staff/physicians. The role also involves prioritizing work activities to meet turnaround times, assisting in inventory control, and participating in other assigned duties. The technologist must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served and may be required to perform other duties as assigned. Additionally, the role includes participating in performance improvement activities, maintaining patient/employee confidentiality, observing compliance policies, participating in Competency and Proficiency testing programs, and observing all safety procedures and precautions, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment and proper disposal of contaminated waste. The technologist is also expected to wear their hospital ID badge at all times.
