About The Position

Requirements

• Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree with successful completion of an accredited Clinical Laboratory training program.
• Minimum one year recent experience in an approved hospital laboratory.
• Possession of a valid license to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in the State of California.
• Knowledge of hospital established policies and procedures for quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
• Knowledge of Clinical Laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Knowledge of Clinical Laboratory terminology and Laboratory routines.
• Knowledge of the appropriate uses of procedures and tests.
• Knowledge of exposure to infections and contagious diseases.
• Knowledge of exposure to the risk of blood borne diseases.
• Knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws and regulations governing clinical laboratory practices.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, patients, and fellow employees, and with all internal and external customers.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

• American Society of Clinical Pathology certification recommended.

Responsibilities

• Performs quantitative and qualitative clinical laboratory determinations.
• Procures specimens.
• Computes test results.
• Submits completed reports.
• Participates in activities relating to quality assurance, quality control, proficiency testing, policy and procedure review, in-service training and staff development.
• Performs the full range of laboratory duties and responsibilities in an acute care setting.
• Plans and organizes diagnostic testing procedures on patient specimens.
• Maintains concise and complete records and test reports.
• Handles absentee replacement on short notice.
• Works occasional irregular hours.
• Manages emergency or crisis situations.
• Keeps abreast of developments in area of laboratory testing.
• Maintains, demonstrates and is assessed on the knowledge and skills necessary to provide for physical, psychosocial and cultural needs appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit.
