About The Position
Creative Dining Services at Washtenaw Community College is seeking a part-time Barista to maintain coffee shop operations and a positive environment, providing fast, efficient, and friendly service for customers and team members. The Barista is responsible for customer service, product knowledge and education, and encouraging safe work practices. The role includes preparing food and beverages to established recipes and presentation standards, handling transactions accurately, and assisting with menu development, special events, ordering, and inventory. The position involves physical work in a commercial kitchen environment and may require overtime, evenings, and special events as needed. Work methods will be reasonably accommodated to allow individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Shifts range between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. The position is 24 to 26 hours per week.
Requirements
- One year of retail experience or six months of specialty coffee experience.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Positive, can-do attitude and attention to detail.
- Love and passion for food.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others, including under pressure.
- Willingness to participate actively in the physical work of a high-quality food service operation.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds.
- Expected to adhere to Employee Handbook policies and procedures and act in accordance with the company's Mission, Vision, and Core Values.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and present food and beverages according to established recipe and presentation standards.
- Provide positive, friendly, and helpful customer service.
- Operate a register, other devices, and a credit card machine accurately while following cash-handling procedures.
- Ensure accurate accounting of transactions, collections, and disbursements during the work shift.
- Follow current coffee business trends and make suggestions for operations.
- Assist with menu development.
- Assist with special events as assigned.
- Assist with product management, including ordering and inventory of stock.
- Encourage safe work practices.
