About The Position

Milltown Partners advises technology companies driving change, global investors funding the future, the giants of sport and entertainment, and influential individuals on communications and policy challenges that define their reputations. Their work spans corporate and financial communications, policy and public affairs to engage regulators and policymakers, policy communications and leadership communications. They use research-driven insights and campaigns, and are pioneering AI-enhanced advisory work. The Associate Director role is for experienced communications leaders who combine advisory authority with a desire for continuous development, working with senior leaders to deliver exceptional client work and grow their own leadership capabilities. The role involves leading client relationships, shaping strategic direction, and ensuring high standards of work delivery. It is a hands-on role requiring direct client advising and active participation in work delivery. Responsibilities also include building external networks, contributing to new business opportunities, and supporting the development of junior colleagues.

Requirements

  • Around 8 years+ of corporate communications experience in consultancy or in-house roles.
  • Experience working with technology companies and/or investors.
  • Demonstrable ability to take a strategic approach to reputation challenges, rooted in research, data, and insight.
  • Experience building advisory relationships with senior stakeholders and delivering strategic counsel in high-pressure situations.
  • Experience taking an integrated approach to communications campaigns, engaging with a range of audiences and channels.
  • Track record of developing media strategies and maintaining an active network of media contacts.
  • Existing network within technology, policy, media or investor communities.
  • Experience managing and developing others through coaching and feedback.
  • Strong grasp of AI tools and their application in advisory work, with ability to drive adoption across teams.
  • Intellectual curiosity to develop expertise in new areas.
  • An entrepreneurial approach to building networks.
  • Commitment to seeking feedback and contributing to an inclusive culture.
  • Excellent command of written and verbal English.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience advising on technology regulation or emerging technology challenges.
  • Experience working within scaling teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead client work, taking strategic responsibility for clients' most important communications challenges, such as navigating policy debates, preparing for major announcements, or protecting reputation in high-stakes situations.
  • Build trust to deliver impactful advice, utilizing the firm's resources to help clients build and defend their reputations.
  • Drive teams and develop colleagues by structuring work clearly, delegating effectively, and holding self and others to high standards.
  • Coach colleagues, sharing experience to help them develop advisory instincts.
  • Lead and inspire colleagues across the US team, fostering a culture of exceptional advice, continuous learning, and collaboration.
  • Contribute to AI-enhanced advisory by driving the use of AI to transform work quality and precision.
  • Guide colleagues in developing AI capabilities, documenting and sharing best practices, and pushing the boundaries of advisory work through technology.
  • Support business development by identifying and contributing to converting new opportunities and extending existing client relationships.
  • Cultivate an external network useful to clients and the firm.
  • Bring an entrepreneurial mindset to growth, identifying new ways to help existing clients or contributing to pitches and proposals.
  • Shape company culture by giving and receiving feedback, demonstrating allyship, actively seeking input, and supporting team wellbeing.
