About The Position

Requirements

• Associate's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
• Related archaeological field and laboratory experience.
• Ability to identify artifacts and cultural features in the field.
• Proficiency in completing standardized archaeological documentation.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work effectively as part of a cohesive team.
• Traditional ecological and cultural knowledge relevant to project work.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Completion of an archaeology field school program strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct pedestrian surveys and excavate shovel test probes.
• Map shovel test probes and survey transects using handheld devices.
• Record field methods and findings on field forms and photograph fieldwork, sites, and other subjects as needed.
• Record archaeological sites under supervision.
• Maintain and organize field equipment; inventory laboratory and field equipment and report damage, needs, and shortages.
• Monitor construction and follow safety guidance when working around heavy equipment.
• Survey existing collections to determine processing stage and assess completion.
• Apply repository requirements for preparing, handling, and storing archaeological project collections.
• Synthesize findings and complete curation tasks according to repository agreements.
• Handle, clean, label, treat, and store artifacts using techniques appropriate to artifact type.
• Meet deadlines and project budgets as directed by the Project Manager or Laboratory Director.
• Verbally report collection schedules and progress to the Laboratory Director.
• Prepare artifacts for analysis based on analysts' needs; retrieve artifacts from the main collection and organize them for analysis.
• Perform preliminary analysis and sorting as directed by analysts.
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
