About The Position

Requirements

• Graduate of a professional nursing school accredited by ACEN or CCNE when the program was completed, with a post-master's certificate, master's degree, or doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner.
• Maintain an active, current, full, and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
• Maintain current, full board certification in a clinical specialty from ANCC, AANPCB, or another nationally recognized certifying body in the area of academic preparation.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.
• U.S. citizenship, except that non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited under VA policy.
• Complete required background and security investigation, onboarding, and pre-employment requirements; selected applicants in testing-designated positions must undergo urinalysis.
• Pass a pre-employment physical evaluation or examination and maintain CDT physical readiness.
• Meet the position's physical demands, including strenuous activity such as carrying people and equipment, walking long distances over difficult terrain, running, climbing, working long hours in primitive or arduous conditions, standing for long periods, and bending and stooping.
• Register with Selective Service if applicable to males born after December 31, 1959.
• Sign a Memorandum of Understanding regarding deployment responsibilities before accepting a final employment offer.
• For Nurse III qualification, have one year of specialized APN (NP) experience equivalent to the Nurse II grade level; no experience is required for Nurse II.
• For Nurse III, demonstrate the stated competencies in clinical practice, outcome focus, leadership, professional development, and professionalism/collegiality.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage a panel of patients with acute and chronic health conditions, emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice.
• Develop and implement individualized plans to achieve optimal population health and disease management.
• Demonstrate leadership and collaborate with the Primary Care Team and other interdisciplinary team members.
• Order and interpret laboratory tests, other tests, and diagnostic studies.
• Prescribe pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.
• Initiate referrals and consults to specialty services.
• Educate patients and their families.
• Assess and adjust plans of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
• Demonstrate the ICARE core values: Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence.
• Travel to Community Based Outpatient Clinics or provide gap coverage as directed by the supervisor, as required.
• Serve as a designated women's health provider and complete mandatory VHA training.
