About The Position

The Advanced Practice Provider (Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) within the acute care hospital setting works in collaboration with, and is an integral member of, a multidisciplinary healthcare team. The APP provides comprehensive care on the inpatient pulmonary critical care (ICU) service. This role requires a minimum of one (1) year of APP experience in critical care.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree required
  • National Board Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • BLS Certification required
  • Minimum one (1) year of APP experience in critical care

Responsibilities

  • Performs complete histories and physicals and documents findings in the medical record.
  • Orders and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant diagnostic information, and indicated diagnostic procedures.
  • Serves as a first responder for nursing and house staff during patient status changes, including ordering interventions and participating in resuscitative efforts.
  • Assesses risks associated with care of acute and complex chronically ill patients, including medication effects, immobility, nutrition, fluid/electrolyte imbalance, immunocompetence, and invasive procedures.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to diagnose acute and complex chronic conditions.
  • Manages diagnostic testing through ordering, interpretation, performance, and supervision.
  • Formulates prioritized differential diagnoses.
  • Identifies complications and initiates appropriate interventions.
  • Develops, documents, and manages individualized plans of care based on expected outcomes.
  • Applies evidence-based guidelines across the continuum of care.
  • Implements and adjusts treatment plans as needed.
  • Prescribes diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions.
  • Performs advanced procedures consistent with privileges and competency validation.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Coordinates with patients, families, and staff to ensure continuity of care across inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Completes timely and compliant documentation, including H&Ps, daily progress notes, care plans, procedure notes, transfer/discharge summaries, and acute event notes.
  • Ensures documentation reflects patient acuity and meets acute care standards.
  • Demonstrates leadership through mentoring, precepting, and education of learners.
  • Participates in research, evidence-based practice initiatives, and professional development activities.
  • Attends Advanced Practice Grand Rounds and specialty meetings.
  • Maintains CEUs and active professional organization membership.
