Requirements
- Physician Assistant pathway: Bachelor’s degree and graduation from an accredited ARC-PA program.
- Physician Assistant pathway: Current New York State license to practice as a Physician Assistant.
- Physician Assistant pathway: Current NCCPA certification.
- Physician Assistant pathway: Current BLS certification.
- Nurse Practitioner pathway: Master’s degree in a Nurse Practitioner program and national board certification in the specialty area.
- Nurse Practitioner pathway: Current New York State license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner and current New York State license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse.
- Nurse Practitioner pathway: Collaborative practice agreement with designated protocols filed with the New York State Department of Education, or collaborative relationship attestation under the Nurse Practitioner Modernization Act of 2015.
- Nurse Practitioner pathway: Current BLS certification.
Responsibilities
- Take initial patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Initiate, document, and communicate the plan of care, and follow up to ensure complete patient screening and preparation.
- Perform daily patient rounds.
- Write orders for medications, laboratory work, and diagnostic tests.
- Interpret laboratory and test results.
- Confer with attending physicians, residents, nursing staff, and other care providers to support optimum patient care.
- Document discharge summaries, prescriptions, and referrals in patient charts.
- Inform patients of necessary post-discharge care instructions.
- Perform related duties as required.
