About The Position

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree combined with 2-4 years academic advising experience or equivalent combination.
• High regard for arts and sciences disciplines.
• Thorough understanding of the career and lifetime benefits of a liberal arts education.
• Capacity to be an effective team player, set objectives, and contribute to strategies that meet goals consistent with the mission of the College of Arts & Sciences Advising Office and the University.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement inclusive programming to support the success of a diverse student body, including transfer students, students of color, students of all backgrounds and income levels, first-generation college students, international students, LGBTQ+ students, and students with disabilities.
• Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully on a wide range of sensitive matters with students and families of all backgrounds.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
• Commitment to providing excellent service to students, parents, alumni, faculty, and staff with a high degree of professionalism, discretion, and judgment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Comfortable with learning new software programs and student engagement platforms.
• Expected to work some evenings and weekends.

Nice To Haves

• Master's degree in liberal arts or student personnel, counseling, education, or related area.
• Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin or Korean.

Responsibilities

• Provide developmental advising to undergraduates to ensure their academic, personal, and professional success.
• Develop and implement activities and programs designed to contribute to a sense of belonging and community among students with diverse cultural, economic, and geographic backgrounds.
• Manage a full cohort of approximately 480 students.
• Lead at least one advising program, often working with faculty directors.
• Collaborate with staff across many student services offices on campus.
• Communicate effectively and respectfully on a wide range of sensitive matters with students and families of all backgrounds.
• Provide excellent service to students, parents, alumni, faculty, and staff with a high degree of professionalism, discretion, and judgment.
