About The Position

The Greater Philadelphia YMCA is hiring a Youth Mentor for before- and after-school enrichment for the 2026–2027 school year. The role involves helping children learn and thrive in a fun, diverse environment by planning and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum, supporting positive behavior, communicating with families, and maintaining program records and learning spaces. The YMCA offers team support, opportunities to learn and grow, and the opportunity to contribute to a nonprofit organization focused on strengthening the community.

Requirements

• Degree from an accredited college or university in an education- or human-services-related field.
• At least 2 years of verified child care experience (2,500 hours).
• Passion for working with children in a fun, diverse environment.
• Ability to pass all relevant clearances and keep trainings up to date.

Responsibilities

• Find engaging ways to help children learn while maintaining environments that build children’s self-esteem.
• Plan and implement program curriculum, ensuring child-centered and developmentally appropriate classroom experiences and using positive reinforcement for behavior management.
• Conduct and record weekly child observations, including observations related to behavioral concerns or development that may require early intervention with parents or guardians.
• Communicate with parents and guardians patiently, effectively, and in a timely manner about children’s program experiences and progress, both verbally and in writing, while maintaining confidentiality and sensitivity.
• Maintain accurate daily attendance records, emergency contact binders, allergy reports, timesheets, incident reports, weekly reports, and child observation reports.
• Keep centers organized and equipped with quality learning materials in labeled containers associated with appropriate learning centers.
• Attend monthly team-planning meetings or additional meetings as needed.
• Actively campaign for the Annual Campaign and work to develop donors and volunteers.
