About The Position

Youth Mentor for the 2026–2027 school year, supporting before- and after-school enrichment programs. The role focuses on helping children learn through engaging, child-centered, developmentally appropriate experiences while maintaining a positive and well-managed environment. The mentor communicates with parents and guardians, documents children’s progress and program records, maintains organized learning spaces, collaborates with the team, and supports YMCA fundraising and community engagement.

Requirements

• A degree from an accredited college or university in an education- or human-services-related field.
• At least 2 years of verified child care experience (2,500 hours).
• Passion for working with children in a fun, diverse environment.
• Ability to pass all relevant clearances and keep trainings up to date.

Responsibilities

• Find engaging ways to help children learn and maintain environments that build children’s self-esteem.
• Plan and implement curriculum, ensuring child-centered and developmentally appropriate learning experiences in classrooms; use positive reinforcement for behavioral management.
• Conduct and record weekly child observations, including observations related to behavior or development that may require early intervention with parents or guardians.
• Communicate effectively and promptly with parents and guardians about children’s program experiences and progress, verbally and in writing, while maintaining confidentiality and sensitivity.
• Maintain accurate daily attendance records, emergency contact binders, allergy reports, timesheets, incident reports, weekly reports, and child observation reports.
• Keep centers supplied with quality learning materials and organize materials in labeled containers associated with appropriate learning centers.
• Attend monthly team-planning meetings or additional meetings as needed.
• Actively campaign for the Annual Campaign and help develop donors and volunteers.
