About The Position

The Yard Loader works in the Retail Store and reports to the Yard Foreman. This part-time role sorts and racks lumber according to grade markings and size, and may operate a forklift or industrial truck to move and load materials and products. The position also supports customers, store deliveries, inventory and loss-prevention procedures, and yard safety and upkeep.

The work is very active, involving standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and climbing throughout the day. Employees frequently lift or move items weighing up to 75 pounds. Responsibilities

• Provide outstanding customer service.
• Answer questions and identify and direct customers to building materials and merchandise in the lumber yard.
• Load merchandise onto store delivery trucks for delivery or transfer.
• Assist with unloading deliveries as necessary.
• Remove lumber from units and place boards in racks according to grade and length.
• Read work orders or invoices, or follow oral instructions, to determine which materials or containers need to be moved or loaded.
• Assist customers with loading purchased merchandise.
• Maintain the appearance of the yard and racks in an orderly and clean manner.
• Operate a forklift or industrial truck to assist with loading or moving merchandise and materials.
• Complete daily forklift inspections.
• Adhere to loss prevention, inventory control, and compliance procedures.
• Maintain awareness of hazards in the store that may affect employees or customers.
• Communicate customer issues and concerns effectively to applicable internal staff members.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
