XBAT Mechanical Systems Design Advanced Lead Engineer

GE Aerospace•Lynn, MA
•$112,000 - $149,000

About The Position

GE Aerospace, in partnership with Shield AI, is advancing F110 propulsion system integration for XBAT, a next-generation autonomous vertical-takeoff-and-landing aircraft. The role focuses on adapting the F110 lubrication system for sustained vertical operation, including reliable oil supply, scavenge performance, thermal management, and engine operability across non-traditional flight attitudes. The engineer will lead the design, procurement, and development of lubrication system components as a module and hardware owner, supporting definition, integration, and validation through design, analysis, testing, and customer interface activities. The position may report to an engineering manager in Lynn, Massachusetts, or Evendale, Ohio, and will work with internal and external engineering disciplines. It requires access to U.S. export-controlled information; employment is contingent on proving U.S. Person status as specified in the posting. GE Aerospace will not sponsor employment visas for this opening. The posting is expected to close November 23, 2026. Relocation assistance is provided.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field from an accredited university.
  • At least 5 years of experience in lubrication system and component design and analysis, focused on advanced systems in aerospace, power generation, or a closely related high-tech industry.
  • Ability to meet the posting's U.S. Person status requirement for access to U.S. export-controlled information.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States; GE Aerospace will not sponsor employment visas for this opening.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's or Ph.D. degree.
  • Experience leading technical projects and/or mentoring junior engineers.
  • Expert-level proficiency with CAD software such as NX or CATIA and advanced simulation tools such as Ansys.
  • Deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including stress analysis, fatigue, fracture mechanics, vibrations, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics.
  • Demonstrated experience with design for manufacturing (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and additive manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead conceptualization, design, analysis, and validation of lubrication system components, hardware, and architectures for engine operation across the full flight envelope, including vertical operating conditions.
  • Work with product definition teams to develop and release component and assembly drawings, maintaining configuration control, producibility, and compliance with engine and air-vehicle integration requirements.
  • Use engineering principles and simulation tools—including fluid dynamics, thermal analysis, structural analysis, and system modeling—to optimize performance, operability, weight, durability, and cost while meeting aerospace requirements and qualification standards.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to mechanical and systems engineers, promoting engineering rigor, cross-functional collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with systems, manufacturing, supply chain, test, and integration teams to support development, delivery, assembly, and integration of lubrication system hardware and supporting equipment.
  • Develop and execute design verification and validation plans, including rig and engine test support, test fixture definition, instrumentation requirements, data analysis, and technical report generation.
  • Identify and mitigate lifecycle technical risks, including oil management in non-traditional orientations, aeration, scavenging performance, thermal limits, sealing integrity, and system reliability.
  • Present designs, analyses, test results, and technical recommendations to internal stakeholders, customers, and certification or regulatory representatives as required.
  • Ensure designs adhere to company engineering standards, safety requirements, quality expectations, and applicable airworthiness or program-specific compliance requirements.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, and prescription drug coverage.
  • Access to a Health Coach and a 24/7 confidential Employee Assistance Program.
